How to Return Your Ballot
Return by Mail
California mails a vote-by-mail ballot to every active registered voter. No postage is required to return it.
- Complete your ballot and seal it in the official return envelope.
- Sign and date the envelope as instructed.
- Mail your ballot early. The Secretary of State recommends mailing it at least seven days before Election Day.
- Mailed ballots must be postmarked by November 3 and received by November 10.
Important: If mailing your ballot on Election Day, ask a postal employee inside the post office for a manual postmark. Depositing a ballot in a mailbox on November 3 does not guarantee an Election Day postmark.
